Rasta Hemp, Mon!

I have been completely mesmerized by a new hemp trend: multicolored dyed hemp in red, yello, and green, or, 'rasta' colors. I have smoked a doobie or two in my day, hemp of course comes from a 'certain' plant, and wearing it often goes hand in hand with the modern hippie, BoHo lifestyle. I actuaprised I have not used it earlier. Image and video hosting by TinyPic I order the spool online, from Amazon. The ball was a gift from my parents. They got it at a small, quirky shop in Maine called Mexicali Blues. I WISH I could go, I love those little holes in the wall that smell of incense and imagination and sunshine and dreams, with a sorta Lennon looking man with barefeet and a smile working behind the counter. Easy Striped Hoop Earrings

Image and video hosting by TinyPic These cute and colorful earrings are super easy and inexpensive to make. I spent less than two dollars to make each pair. Image and video hosting by TinyPic All you need is some cord in your choice of colors, a pair of hoop earrings, scissors, and white glue. Image and video hosting by TinyPic The first step is to cut a length of cord. For every inch of diameter of the hoops, cut a foot. This pair is about an inch across, so I cut a foot. If you use one color only, double the length. Then tie the cord around the hoop, just behind the closure. Image and video hosting by TinyPic Wrap the cord around the entire hoop. Tie the end. Glue both knots. After the glue dries, cut off the extra cord.

Dreamcatcher Jewelry

It started out as an idea from my friend. we were going to make full blown, bona fide dreamcatchers and sell them at the local craft fair. We looked up an amazing, easy to understand tutorial at  Native Tech's website and decided to buy all the materials when we could spare the money. That day never came. I decided to see if I could make dreamcatchers with materials I already had. I found many hoops, but they were all tiny. The idea to turn them into necklaces and earrings was born. Image and video hosting by TinyPic I used the tutorial at nativetech and altered it in these ways: materials Instead of vines, use a keyring, a metal bangle bracelet, or any other small, sturdy ring. Instead of suede or leather, I wrapped with hemp, and I used heavy duty button thread as the the string. I used a hemp tassel instead of feathers, and seed beads for the beads. Image and video hosting by TinyPic I also used a sewing needle while weaving the thread. It was my soul mate's idea, he saw me struggling to make the tiny pattern with my swollen, pregnant finger Image and video hosting by TinyPic s. Atfer I was done, I attached ear wires, or a neckace cord.
